דוד חבקין (מוסקבה 1930 - ירושלים 2013) היה פעיל יהודי במוסקבה, מסורב עליה ואסיר ציון. בסתיו 1948, במהלך ביקורה של גולדה מאיר, צירת ישראל בברה"מ, בבית הכנסת של מוסקבה, דוד חבקין הצליח לצלם את האירוע, והפיץ את התמונות בין היהודים במוסקבה. ב-1957, במהלך הפסטיבל הבינלאומי לנוער וסטודנטים במוסקבה, הוא יצר קשרים עם חברי המשלחת הישראלית, וקיבל חומרים מישראלי. בדצמבר 1958 דוד חבקין נעצר על ידי הקג"ב, הואשם בפעילות אנטי-סובייטית ונידון ל-5 שנות מאסר במחנות. הוא שוחרר לאחר שלוש שנים וחידש את פעילותו במוסקבה. בין היתר הפיץ ושכפל חומרי סאמיזדט יהודי, בסוף שנות ה-60 ארגן מפגשים לציון פרידה מן הפעילים שעמדו לעלות לישראל, לימד עברית וארגן אולפנים. באוגוסט 1969הוא נמנה עם יוזמי הקמת הועד המתאם הכלל-סובייטי (ה-VKK) המחתרתי של התנועה היהודית. באוקטובר 1969 דוד חבקין עלה לישראל, והחל להשתתף בתנועה שמעבר לים למען שחרור יהודי ברית המועצות. האוסף הפרטי של דוד חבקין מכיל את מסמכיו האישיים, התכתבויותיו מן השנים 2009-1981, תמונות מתקופות פעילותו ומגוריו בברית המועצות וחייו בישראל. האוסף כולל מסמכים של אגודת "אסירי ציון" בישראל, קטעי מאמרים על פעילותו של חבקין, על נושאים פוליטיים שונים ועל פעיל יהודי אחר מברית המועצות - אדוארד קוזנצוב --

The collection contains historical documents about the life and activities of David Khavkin, a Jewish activist, refusenik, and Prisoner of Zion from Moscow. The collection includes numerous photographs from David Khavkin’s life in the USSR, and photographs of his friends who were involved in Jewish activities. The collection also includes photographs of D. Khavkin from the period of his life in Israel, his personal documents, an interview, and correspondence from 1981-2009. An important part of the collection are papers related to Khavkin’s activities in the Association of “Prisoners of Zion”. There are minutes of meetings of the association, its resolutions, goals and correspondence from 1984-2004. The collection holds documents related to the investigation into David Khavkin's beating by Israeli policemen (1975-1976) including photographs, correspondence with lawyers, and the complaint submitted by Khavkin. The collection also contains articles about Khavkin’s activities and life, on the activities of Eduard Kuznetsov, another Jewish activist in the USSR, and various articles on history, political and social issues.

תקציר ביוגרפי David Khavkin was born in 1930 in Moscow. As a child, he accompanied his grandfather and father to the Moscow Choral Synagogue on the Jewish holidays. He also learnt to speak Yiddish as a child. In the mid-1950s, he met other young Jews near the synagogue to dance and sing Jewish songs. In autumn 1948, during a visit to the synagogue of Golda Meir (Israeli minister plenipotentiary to the Soviet Union), Khavkin took some photographs of the event, and distributed them among the Jews in Moscow. In 1957, during the World Festival of Youth and Students in Moscow, he established contacts with members of the Israeli delegation, and received a calendar, two records and postcards. After the festival, he went on a cross-country trip, during which he met Jews in the Ukraine, the Caucasus, Central Asia and other places. On his return to Moscow, in December 1958, he was arrested, charged with anti-Soviet activities and sentenced to five years in the camps. He was released after three years in prison and resumed his activities in Moscow, including maintaining contacts with Israeli Embassy employees. His small room was considered the center of Jewish social life in Moscow. He distributed and duplicated Jewish Samizdat’ materials, arranged send-offs for activists leaving to Israel in the late 1960s, taught Hebrew and organized ulpans. In August 1969 Khavkin was one of the initiators of the creation of the underground All-Soviet Coordinating Committee of the Jewish movement (VKK). In October 1969, he moved to Israel and was active in the international movement to free Soviet Jews. David Khavkin died in 2013 in Jerusalem.
