דוד מובשוביץ' (1957-1887) היה פעיל ציבור יהודי באנגליה. הוא נולד באימפריה הרוסית ועם תחילת מלחמת העולם הראשונה התיישב בלונדון. מ-1915 היה פעיל בועד שליחי הקהילות, הגוף המייצג של יהודי בריטניה, והיה אחראי בו לקשרים עם יהודי מזרח אירופה. מובשוביץ' נסע לעתים קרובות לחו"ל כדי לדווח על תנאי החיים של האוכלוסייה היהודית בארצות שונות ובשנים 1917-1915 שימש כנציג הוועדה המשותפת לענייני חוץ בשטוקהולם. כאשר ב-1917 הוועדה פוזרה ובמקומה הוקמה ב-1918 ועדת החוץ, שבראשה התייצב לוסיין וולף, התמנה דוד מובשוביץ' למזכירו. בהיותו היסטוריון חובב ויידישיסט מובשוביץ' כתב ספר על שפת היידיש ופרסם תרגומים של חלקים מהתנ"ך ביידיש. הוא גם היה חבר פעיל בוועדת ייוו"א בלונדון. האוסף כולל כתביו של דוד מובשוביץ' ומסמכים רבים של לוסיין וולף. אלה כוללים כתביו, יומן משנת 1919, והתכתבות עם אנשי ציבור ומוסדות יהודים ולא-יהודים ממדינות שונות: מכתבים מאת ורה פיגנר, שמעון דובנוב, קלוד מונטיפיורי, "חברת עזרה של יהודי גרמניה", משרד החוץ הבריטי ועוד. ההתכתבות של וולף מתייחסת לסוגיות מגוונות ובינן: משפט בייליס ב-1913; פעילות ארגונים יהודיים שונים ופעילות ציונית בפרט; מצב היהודים באוקראינה לאחר מהפכת 1917; מצב היהודים בליטא בשנות השלושים; תקריות אנטי-יהודיות בבוואריה (גרמניה) ב-1923 ועוד. האוסף כולל גם תזכיר מ-1929 שנשלח לאוסטן צ'מברלין עם הערות בנוגע להגנה על מיעוטים. באוסף כלולים חומרי הוועדה המשותפת לענייני חוץ ומסמכי ועדת החוץ המתייחסים לפעילות של גופים אלה, לחיים היהודיים ופעילותם של ארגונים יהודיים אחרים ברוסיה, פולין, רומניה, גרמניה, ארץ ישראל, אוסטריה, ארה"ב וארצות אחרות. האוסף מכיל מסמכים על פרעות ביהודי אוקראינה ב-1919, על מצבם של יהודי סוריה ב-1926 ודוחות מבגדד משנת 1934 על התנועה האנטי-יהודית. האוסף כולל מסמכים של אלכסנדר קרנסקי (ראש הממשלה בממשלת המעבר הרוסית לאחר מהפכת פברואר 1917) משנים 1920-1917, קטעי עיתונות, קריקטורות פוליטיות, פרסומים בריטיים וחומרים של ועידת השלום בפריז בשנים 1947-1946. באוסף כלולים חומרים שונים ובינם פרסומים מטעם ארגונים יהודיים ולא-יהודיים: התאחדות האנגלו-יהודית; הוועד היהודי האמריקאי; הקונגרס היהודי הקנדי; ועד שליחי הקהילות של יהודי דרום אפריקה; הקונגרס היהודי העולמי; אספת האומות האירופיות השבויות (ACEN); האומות המאוחדת ועוד --

The collection consists of materials by Lucien Wolf and David Mowshowitch, records on activities of Conjoint Foreign Committee and Joint Foreign Committee, and documents on Jewish life and Jewish organizations in Russia, Ukraine, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Germany, Eretz Israel, Austria, the USA and other countries. There are materials on activities of non-Jewish organizations, numerous press clippings, British publications, publications in German, Yiddish and Hebrew, and political cartoons. Lucien Wolf’s papers include his articles and writings, a diary from 1919 and correspondence with Jewish and non-Jewish figures and organizations/institutions in various countries. For instance, the correspondence contains telegrams from Paul Nathan, letters by Claude G. Montefiore, Simon Dubnow and Vera Figner. In 1921-1924 Dubnow was in contact with the Petrograd Jewish People's University and an institution offering Jewish courses in Kovno. Figner’s letters offer support to Russian students and to the creation of the Russian University (1913-1914). Wolf’s papers relate to his views on Zionism and also include a report submitted to the High Commission for Refugees in 1888, a letter from ‘Hilsferein der Deutschen Juden’ (1907), correspondence in connection with the situation of Jews in Finland (1908), the Beilis Trial (1913), correspondence with the UK Foreign Office concerning anti-Jewish incidents in Bavaria (1923) and a letter-memorandum (March 1, 1929) sent to Sir Austen Chamberlain with observations regarding protection of minorities. David Mowshowitch papers include his articles and writings. Materials of the Conjoint Foreign Committee and Joint Foreign Committee contain: documents from 1915 relating to the ill-treatment of the Jewish population in the Eastern war-zone (Poland, Galicia and Bukovina); records on the suffering of Russian Jews during WWI; records concerning pogroms in Ukraine (1919); correspondence between the American Jewish Committee and Board of Deputies of British Jews; the Board of Deputies reports; Joint Foreign Committee meetings’ minutes and statements; report on conditions of Jewish communities in Syria (1926); reports on the anti-Jewish movement in Iraq (1934); memos regarding the Austrian Jews's situation in 1922-1938; papers on National-Socialism in Germany and situation of Polish Jews; a memorandum on the Position of Jews in Roumani in 1944; minutes, reports and statements of the First and Second Conference of Jewish Communities within the Commonwealth (1950-1954). The collection contains records on the Paris Peace Conference in 1919-1920, and also reports, memorandums and publications of different organizations: American Jewish Committee; World Jewish Congress; League of Nations; United Nations; AJDC; Anglo-Jewish Association; South African Jewish Board of Deputies; Carnegie Endowment for International Peace; Canadian Jewish Congress; Comité des délégations juives (Paris); and more. For example, papers on United Nations include a report from 1951 on the activities of B'nai B'rith respecting the United Nations and other international and a 1954 report by the Agudas Israel World Organisation concerning the United Nations. The collection also contains correspondence with Aleksandr Kerensky (the Prime Minister of the Russian Provisional Government) from 1917-1920: correspondence with Prime Minister of the United Kingdom David Lloyd George and the British Foreign Office (1918); letters to the French government; correspondence with the American Embassy in London; offprint on the arrest of the All-Russian Provisional Government; declaration issued by the members of the first All-Russian Constituent Assembly; Kerensky’s report to the League for the Regeneration of Russia on his observations in England and France, etc.

תקציר ביוגרפי David Mowshowitch was born in 1887 in Tsarist Russia. He had a thorough knowledge of Slavonic languages, English, German, French, Hebrew and Yiddish. At the beginning of WWI, he was sent over to London to manage liaison between the Jews in Russia and the Board of Deputies of British Jews. In 1915-1917 David Mowshowitch was a Conjoint Foreign Committee representative in Stockholm, and from 1918 became a close collaborator and secretary to Lucien Wolf, who acted as head of the Joint Foreign Committee. In 1940 he joined the staff of the Foreign Affairs Department in the Board of Deputies of British Jews. Since Mowshowitch was an amateur historian and a Yiddishist, he wrote a book on the Yiddish language and published translations of sections of the Bible in Yiddish. He was also an active member of the London YIVO Committee. He died in London on June 24th 1957.
