אתל קובינסקה (1927, דיאטלובו - 2015, תל-אביב) הייתה שחקנית תיאטרון יהודי בברית המועצות, ושחקנית תיאטרון ישראלית. היא הייתה תלמידתו של השחקן והבמאי שלמה מיכואלס וסיימה את בית הספר לדרמה בתיאטרון היהודי הממלכתי של מוסקבה (GOSET). אתל קובינסקה שיחקה בתיאטרון עד 1948 כאשר השלטונות הסובייטים הורו על סגירתו. אז התקבלה ל"תיאטרון האקדמי הממלכתי - מוסובט". ב-1972 היא עלתה לישראל והתקבלה כשחקנית קבועה ב"הבימה". אתל קובינסקה הייתה שותפה להקמת תיאטרון "יידישפיל" בתל-אביב ב-1987 ושיחקה בו. האוסף הפרטי של אתל קובינסקה כולל את החומרים הבאים: מחברותיה; זיכרונות של אמה; חומרים שונים (כולל תמונות) המשקפים את פעילותה בתיאטראות בברית המועצות ובישראל; חומרים הקשורים לבעלה - המלחין והפסנתרן לב קוגן; ראיונות של אתל קובינסקה ומאמרים על פעילותה. --

The private collection of Ethel Kovinska (Kovenskaia) consisting of records related to her life in the USSR and Israel. The records reflect her theater and concert activities, as well as activities of her husband - composer and pianist Lev Kogan. Materials relating to Ethel Kovinska's activities in the USSR include for example theater programs and brochures from the GOSET (1941-49), and a letter from the Jewish actor Benyamin Zuskin to Kovinska's parents (1945). There are also theater programs, posters and brochures from the "Mossovet" Theater (1950-72), programs of her recitals and performances, events commemorating Jewish writers and actors (1959-71), biographical note ("kharakteristika") on Kovinska composed by the director of “Mossovet” theater Yuri Zavadsky (1956), and more. Materials reflecting Ethel Kovinska’s activities in Israel contain theatre programs and brochures from the "Habima" (1972-88) and "Yiddishpiel" theaters (1988-98), announcements of Kovinska's recitals and concerts in Israel as well as of foreign concert tours with Yiddish songs. In addition, the collection contains programs, reviews and other materials on the touring performances of Ethel Kovinska and Lev Kogan in Europe, North America and Australia. The collection includes Ethel Kovinska's personal documetns, her notebooks and sheets with lyrics by various authors, and her speech at the Solomon Mikhoels' memorial evening in 1990. Lev Kogan’ materials include his personal documents, his manuscript of musical notations on the song “Shulamith”, photos of his and Kovinska’s concerts. An important part of the collection is the published memoirs of Ethel Kovinska's mother, Lisa Garber-Kovinska. There are also reviews and articles in Israeli, US-American, Soviet and Russian press on Kovinska’s and Kogan's performances, and Kovinska’s interviews.

תקציר ביוגרפי Ethel Kovinska (Kovenskaia) was born in July 1926 in Diatlovo (Belarus). Her mother was Lisa Garber-Kovinska, a renowned Jewish actress. Ethel Kovinska grew up in Grodno, and in 1940 moved to Moscow. She was accepted into the Moscow State Jewish Theater (GOSET) directed by Solomon Mikhoels. After the outbreak of the war with Nazi Germany, Ethel Kovinska followed the theater to Tashkent, where she graduated from its drama school. In 1943 she returned to Moscow with the theater and continued to perform. In 1948 the Soviet authorities ordered the theatre to be shut down, and Ethel Kovinska moved to the Mossovet State Academic Theatre directed by Yuri Zavadsky. In 1972, she immigrated to Israel with her husband - pianist and composer Lev Kogan. She was accepted as an actress at the Habima Theatre, and was one of the founders of the Yiddishpiel theater in Tel Aviv (1987). Ethel Kovinska died in Tel Aviv in 2015.
