Juden in Thüringen in der Frühen Neuzeit (1520-1650)

In the period discussed, Jewish life in the region of Thuringia was regulated on the basis of "protection letters" which determined the Jews' rights and obligations, such as the rate of taxes, interdiction to build synagogues, and permission or prohibition to engage in pawnbroking or moneylending. During this period, sixteen letters were issued, some of which concerned individual Jews, their families, and their staff. Pp. 156-163 discuss expulsions of Jews from several localities during the 16th century, mostly due to accusations of blasphemy.
