הקונסיסטוריה של הכנסייה הקתולית בדיוקסיה של וילנה הוקמה בשנים 1453-1421. זה היה מוסד לניהול הכנסייה הקתולית באזורים של ליטא המודרנית, בלארוס ואזורים אחדים בפולין. תחת שלטונה של האימפריה הרוסית הקונסיסטוריה מילאה תפקידי ייעוץ לבישוף והייתה אף כבית המשפט. הקונסיסטוריה עסקה בתיקים אזרחיים ופליליים של כמרים ונזירים, בגירושין של מאמינים, בסוגיות הנוגעות בהקמת כנסיות ומנזרים ועוד. הקונסיסטוריה שלטה במרשם הלידות בקהילות הקתוליות, כמו גם בנושאים נוגעים לפעילות מיסיונרית בקרב יהודים. מומרים יהודים מהמאה התשע-עשרה ברוסיה כללו קטגוריה של אנשים שהמירו את דתם בעל כורחם (חיילים קנטוניסטים תחת שלטון ניקולאי הראשון וילדים שהוטבלו לנצרות על ידי הוריהם) וקטגוריה של המומרים מרצון (אנשי העלית העסקית היהודית והיהודים שביקשו לשפר את מעמדם המקצועי). היו גם קטגוריות נוספות קטנות יותר דוגמת פושעים יהודים שעד 1862 יכלו לזכות להפחתת העונש או לביטולו אחרי המרת הדת. אוסף הקונסיסטוריה כולל עותקים של חומרים הנוגעים לחכירת רכוש השייך למוסדות הכנסייה הקתולית על ידי היהודים, מסמכים אודות סכסוכים כספיים בין יהודים לכנסייה ולגבי תביעות כספיות, חומרים אודות אלימות כלפי יהודים מצד כמרים, מכתבים בדבר המרת הדת של היהודים ובקשה אחת לביטול המרת הדת. החומרים מכסים את התקופה שבין שנת 1806 ועד ל-1833 --

The collection of the Spiritual Consistory of the Vilnius Roman Catholic Diocese is a valuable resource for the interaction between the Spiritual Consistory of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Vilnius and Jews. An important part of the collection are files connected to conversion of Jews. For instance, there are letters on the conversion of Icka Izraelowicz in 1817 and of Aron Chilowicz in 1819. A file from 1816 contains a letter from the Grodno Provincial Board in relation to a request of Pruzhany’s Jews Ariel Birnbaum, Zundel Gershgorn and a widow Esther Girshovich on cancellation of her daughter’s conversion. The next group of records concerns the lease of property belonging to Catholic Church institutions by Jews. There are documents on the leasing of mills. Examples include the leasing of the former royal mill of Vilnius University by Leiba Abelson in the first half of the 19th century. The records include protocols, reports, contracts and other materials regarding the lease and provide information on the procedure of leasing of the Catholic church’s property to Jews. The collection also includes records connected to monetary or property claims between Jews and the church. One such file deals with the court’s resolution from 1806 regarding a money dispute between Pasvalys (Poswol) resident, Isaak Orelowicz, and the church. Another example is a resolution of a court regarding monetary claims of the Bernardine monastery in Grodno against the Jewish community of Krynki in 1820. In addition, the collection holds documents on violence against Lejzer Abramowicz by a priest from Kobryn in 1806.

תקציר ביוגרפי The Spiritual Consistory of the Vilnius Roman Catholic Diocese was formed in 1421-1453. The consistory performed advisory functions to the episcopal administration and the court. It dealt with civil and criminal cases of priests and monks, divorce of believers, issues regarding the depletion of the foundation, and the creation and construction of churches and monasteries. It controlled the registries of births in parishes, as well as issues regarding missionary activity amongst Jews. In 1915 the functions of the consistory passed to the curia of the Roman Catholic Metropolis of Vilnius.
