נורוז הוא חג האביב הפרסי, המציין את תחילת השנה הפרסית. פירוש השם בפרסית הוא "יום חדש". מקורו של החג בדת הזורואסטרית, הדת השולטת באיראן לפני בוא האסלאם. הדת הזורואסטרית היא דת דואליסטית (מאמינה בשני מוקדי אלוהות ולא אחד), הרואה את העולם כזירת מאבק בין כוחות האור לכוחות החושך. נורוז, החל ביום מפנה האב
