אשה אלזה ברגמן (שם נעורים: בורקהארט) (1896-1978) הייתה אשתו הראשונה של גרשם שלום, ואשתו השנייה של שמואל הוגו ברגמן. הייתה חברה מוקדם בתנועת "ברית שלום", סופרת ועבדה בהנהלת הספרייה הלאומית.

| תקציר ביוגרפי |
Escha Bergmann (1896-1978), maiden name Burchhart, divorced Scholem. She was born in Hamburg, studied medicine and then philosophy in Heidelberg and München. In Heidelberg she was member of a circle of Zionist women around Margarete Pinner and Nelly Auerbach, here she also met in 1918 Gershom Scholem. In 1923 Escha moved to Jerusalem, and began working in the administration of the National Library under the direction of Hugo Bergmann. In the beginning she lived at the Bergmanns' house, then Gershom and Escha married and moved to a house rented from Lotte Cohn and her sister. In 1936 the Scholems divorced, also the Bergmanns, and Hugo Bergmann married Escha Scholem. Escha and the two sisters Cohn were female members of Brit Shalom. She wrote book reviews for the Jüdische Rundschau and other newspapers and articles and opinion pieces on political matters of the day. |
