The work was composed by Simon de Nikolsburg and is dedicated to Emmanuel Ernesto, the count of Waldstein (the 6th Bishop of Litoměřice, a patron of art and science) and bishop Amyclensis The subject of the work deals with the origin and importance of the Hebrew language. It deals with the language of creation, citing Jewish and Christian sources, including Jonathan, Origen, Jerome, and Augustine. The essay also discusses the question of paleo-Hebrew and the transition to writing in square letters, and the question of the reliability of the Jewish tradition.
