Antisemitism, xenophobia and religious persecution in Russia's regions

The first in a series of annual reports on the subject. Antisemitism was on the rise in Russia in 1998-99. Presents results of a year-long monitoring of antisemitism in 62 of Russia's 89 administrative . regions. Reporting on each region, relates antisemitic incidents and the activities of the Nazi-style Russkoye Natsionalnoye Yedinstvo (Russian National Unity) group. Pp. 13-31 contain reports on the RNU, on antisemitism in the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, on the role of the Russian Orthodox Church in promoting antisemitism, and on other extremist groups. Pp. 189-198 contain an appendix: "Chronicle of Antisemitism in Russia: May 1998-August 1999".
