Town of Guba (Kresnia Sloboda), the last Jewish town in exile, nestled in the hills of the Caucasus in north Azerbaijan where 6,000 "Mountain Jews" found refuge at the beginning of the 18th century. Today the Jewish population there continues a unique way of life that dates back thousands of years. The preserved language Juarit (Johore) is the language of the Caucasian Jews. Director Gil Lesnik imparts the town's beauty and the narrator's deep affection for her childhood home. |
