"The present volume brings together essays that emerged from a preliminary phase to build a graduate research group, funded by the BMBF from March 2015 to February 2016. By incorporating perspectives from modern sociological and philosophical studies, a research approach was developed to give the discipline of "Jewish Studies" a new methodological orientation, which should make a contribution to the development of a tradition-building processes in Judaism. The approach pursued here is to interpret the processes of traditional formation as an interplay between the "lifeworld" in which they are anchored and discourses that develop in and out of the "lifeworld". The following essays emerged from three workshops and a concluding international conference on the topic." -- Publisher
