Jazz survivor

Relates the Holocaust experiences of Louis Bannet (born in 1911 in Rotterdam), a violin prodigy who switched to the trumpet to earn money. In occupied Holland he hid in villages until his arrest. He was sent to Auschwitz, where he literally played music for his life. He headed the Auschwitz orchestra, as well as a Gypsy group before most of the Gypsies were killed. Toward the end of the war, he was sent to other camps and on a death march. As a postwar counter-intelligence Nazi hunter, he killed an SS officer in revenge. After the war he returned to playing violin and jazz trumpet. In 1955 he and his wife moved to Canada.
