Presents, on opposite pages, an essay by Haraszti, along with notes to the essay, about three testimonies of Auschwitz escapees, and the facsimiles of those testimonies in Hungarian translation. The first is the testimony of Rudolf Vrba and Josef Lanik who escaped from Auschwitz in April 1944. Haraszti relates the story of the escape and the protocol, its translations and dissemination. The second protocol, by Czesław Mordowicz and Arnošt Rosin, was recorded a month later by these two new escapees from Auschwitz, reporting about the Hungarian transports. The third protocol was written by a Pole, Jerzy Tabeau (or Tabau), at the turn of 1943-44, a few months after his successful escape, telling about ways of extermination at the camp.
