Presents the report of a commission of inquiry appointed by the Czech government in 1998 to look into the theft of Jewish gold and precious metals in the Czech Protectorate during the Second World War. Discusses the legal aspects of the restriction of property rights of the Jews, leading to the complete appropriation of Jewish property in 1941, including precious metals and stones. Relates how these materials were dealt with by the monetary institutions of the Protectorate, including their sale in the German and the international markets. Reconstructs the amount of gold, silver, platinum, and precious stones illegally seized. Deals, also, with the postwar fate of the gold held by the Protectorate's monetary institutions at the end of the war.
