Contains a diary written originally in 1943 (in Polish) while Cymlich was hiding in the house of a Polish peasant. He was born in 1921 in Falenica, near Warsaw. With the German invasion, some of his family members fled to the USSR, but Cymlich stayed behind with his parents and worked in their bakery. In August 1940 he and his father were accused of smuggling bread and sentenced to several years in jail. Cymlich lost contact with his father, and escaped in April 1941. He went back to his home to find that his mother had been murdered by Ukrainians and German soldiers. He then worked for the local police, but was arrested and deported to Treblinka in August 1941. In February 1943 he escaped and returned to Falenica, where one of his brothers helped him find a hiding place in the house of a Polish acquaintance until the liberation.
