Knowledge and remembrance of the Holocaust in Sweden

Interviews were conducted with 1,000 Swedes to determine their knowledge about the Holocaust, feelings about Holocaust remembrance, attitudes toward Jews, and awareness of Sweden's "Living History" campaign, whereby free distribution of the book "Tell Ye Your Children" is intended to encourage parents to learn about and transmit to their children information about the Holocaust. The survey found that almost all Swedes favor keeping alive the memory of the Holocaust; Swedes have strong knowledge about some aspects of the Holocaust; almost all reject Holocaust denial, although a very large number have encountered such denial; slightly less than half know about the "Living History" campaign, and 16% belong to families that ordered the book. Swedes' attitudes toward Jews are very positive; they are at the middle-to-high end of the scale of knowledge about the Holocaust when compared with other nationalities surveyed, and are first in terms of advocating Holocaust remembrance.
