Raphael Lemkin's thoughts on Nazi genocide

Publication of a previously unknown and untitled manuscript by Lemkin (1900-1959), found by the editor in the American Jewish Archives in Cincinnati. Based mainly on the "Proceedings and Documents of the Nuremberg Trials" (with extensive quotes from this work), Lemkin also cites other sources, such as Hans Frank's diary. Following a brief chapter on the development of Nazism and the evolution of the Holocaust, he examines the technique of the annihilation of the Jews (starvation, extermination through work, outright killings, etc.), the Nazis' motivation and intent to kill, and the question which Nazi leaders were guilty of the perpetration of genocide (e.g. Himmler, Eichmann, Frank). Pp. xv-xxv contain the editor's introduction, "The Importance of Raphael Lemkin", originally delivered in 1990 at the 20th Annual Scholars' Conference on the Holocaust at Vanderbilt University, Nashville.
