Schalom libertad!

Jews, especially from Poland, the U.S., and France formed a very large proportion of the International Brigades in the Spanish Civil War, as there were many Jews in the communist parties which provided many of the fighters. Jews all over Europe felt that their fate would be decided in the war against fascism. On pp. 57-58 cites the Nazi polemical work "Rotbuch über Spanien" (1937) and fascist propaganda from other European countries which emphasized the prominent role of Jews on the Republican side. Includes biographies of Jewish fighters; of those who survived the war, many perished later in Stalin's purges and in German concentration camps.
