Participation in the rescue of children from Germany through Holland from spring 1933 until May 1940; the role of non-Jews in the rescue operations; the organization and transfer of transports of children from Germany through Holland to England after Crystal Night. Religious committee of the Dutch Jewry founded in March of 1933 for the care of refugees who started coming from Nazi Germany. Increase in rate of emigration after Kristallnacht causing change of policy on part of Dutch government that limited number of refugees and obliged committee to guarantee refugees's stay financially and ensure they would be centralized. Border officially closed in December of 1938 but border police unofficially permitting children who arrived in trains to stay. When some 1500 children have arrived it was decided to found a committee to take care of them. Quakers and Catholics also in committee. Interviewee becoming chairperson of committee after a while. Finding housing for children, screening the many requests for immigration coming from occupied countries, distributing the older children in institutions and the younger ones among Jewish families. Some 700 children adopted. Difficulties in finding families that would adopt orthodox children. Problems of liability and guardianship in the absence of contact with the parents. Many of the children captivated by the Germans after the Netherlands' occupation. Involvement in the rescue of seventy children who were smuggled to England on ; day of occupation.
