The collection includes handwritten and typed copies of Jacoby's correspondence and some original letters by him and to others he was in contact with. In addition, there are some letters from the municipal library in Koenigsberg to Mayer concerning Jacoby's estate. Letters and financial documents from the Lassalle family, today kept in a separate file in the Schwadron collection, possibly have been part of the original collection created by Mayer.

Johann Jacoby (Königsberg i. Pr. 1805-1877) was a German-Jewish physician, democrat and supporter of Jewish emancipation. As a politician in Prussia, he strongly supported leftist demoratic ideas and opposed Bismarck's policy. In his later years he joined the Social Democratic Party and was even elected as member of the Reichstag in 1874, however, he rejected the mandat. |

The collection was permanently deposited by Gustav Mayer, professor in Berlin, at the library in 1937. Abraham Schwadron separated the autograph letters from the copies, included the letters into his autographs collection and the letter copies into the manuscript section of the same collection. In February 2016, the original collection has been reconstructed. |
