Marcel Marcian (pseudonym of Moritz Marcus) was a Jewish writer and journalist in Romania. He was born on September 25, 1914 in Bacău, Romania. In 1935 Marcian graduated the Academy of Economic Science in Bucharest. Marcian's first publication in prose was in 1939, in the Romanian journal "Adam". During the years 1946-1949 Marcian was the chief librarian of the Bucharest Jewish Community Library. For 20 years, between 1950 and 1970, Marcian was the secretary of the Romanian Association of Writers. Marcian visited Israel a few times, but remained living in Romania. Marcel Marcian died on May 9, 2007. |

The collection was permanently deposited at the JNUL by Marcian himself, between the years 1977-1986. The first deposit was in May 1977, during his stay in Israel. Some other materials were deposited by Marcian's relatives in Ashqelon and Rishon Le Zion. |
