קרשנצו דל מונטה (1935-1868), משורר יהודי- איטלקי, כתב בדיאלקט היהודי-איטלקי. הארכיון כולל מסמכים אישיים ומשפחתיים, חומר ביוגרפי וחומרים בדפוס, התכתבויות וכתבי יד, בעיקר של סונטות דל מונטה. בארכיון גם חומר שנאסף על ידי קרלו דל מונטה לאחר מות אביו.

Crescenzo Del Monte was born on 2 May 1868 in Rome, to parents both from families of old Roman descent. As a young man he began writing sonnets in Italian, Romanesco (the dialect spoken by the inhabitants of Rome) and Judeo-Romanesco (the dialect spoken specifically by the Jews of Rome). He published three poetry collections in Judaeo-Romanesco, as well as essays about this dialect and about the history of the Jews in Rome after 1870. He was active in the life of Rome's Jewish Community, serving as a member of the Board of the Jewish Community and its Charity Committee, and as President of the Israelite Hospital. He died in Rome on 27 July 1935. A fourth volume of his poetry, including his sonnets in Romanesco, was published posthumously. His poetic work has succeeded in creating a vast body of texts that preserve the spoken dialect of Roman Jews, especially during the period of the ghetto (1555-1870), and at the same time, reflect their social, economic and religious life. |

After Del Monte's death, the archive remained in the possession of the family and was cared for by his son Carlo. Some manuscripts were donated by the family to the Jewish Community of Rome. In 1976, after Carlo's death, the archive was sent to Salvatore Fornari, director of the Jewish Museum of Rome, who donated a part of it to the Museum itself. In 1995, after Fornari's death, the remaining documents were deposited at the National Library by the Italian Friends of the Hebrew University. |
