| תקציר ביוגרפי |
Eugen Relgis (Iaşi 1895-Montevideo 1987). Author and journalist, concerned with humanitarianism and pacifism. Contributed and edited leading Romanian periodicals and Jewish journals. His major work, Principiile Umanitariste, was translated into 17 languages and made him one of the best-known figures in the intellectual world between the world wars. In 1947 he left Romania and settled in Montevideo, lecturing at universities there and in Argentina and Brazil. Some of his books contain prefaces by celebrities such Albert Einstein and Romain Rolland. In 1955 his friends presented his candidature for the Nobel Peace Prize. Eugen Relgis Archive contains personal documents, correspondence, manuscripts, documents connected to his public activity and printed material. The archive was deposited in The National Library of Israel by the Relgis himself in 1970, and later in 1976-1977 and 1983. Additional material was deposited by Selva Buka in 1978 and by Eugenio Soru in 1986. |
