תקציר ביוגרפי |
Martin (Márton) Mordechai Schreiner (Nagyvárad 1863 - Berlin-Lankwitz 1926). Son of melamed, studied 1882-1887 at University of Budapest and the Rabbinical Seminar, influenced by his teacher Ignác Goldziher. In 1886 he obtained his doctorate with a dissertation, which was also his largest publication. His dissertation was followed in 1887 by the rabbinate examination and the rabbinic diploma. In 1886 served as rabbi of Dunapentele, in 1887 as the rabbi of Csurgó, there he introduced the youth service. He held his sermons in Hungarian or in German. Some of his sermons were published. He focused on pedagogical tasks and has published a book concerning religious education. He left Csurgó for Budapest in 1891 and worked there as a professor at the Országos Izraelita Tanítóképző Intézet. He taught between 1894 and 1902 at the Lehranstalt der Wissenschaft des Judentums in Berlin and was a prominent scholar of Hebrew language and of Islamic literature, religion and society. In 1902 he became mentaly ill and was interned at the Lankwitz Santoriumin in Berlin there he remained until his death in 1926. |
