Discusses the development of antisemitism in Italy in the modern period, focusing on a general hostility toward Jews. left-wing antisemitism, and the anti-Jewish policy of Italian fascism beginning in 1938. These earlier developments illuminate various aspects of contemporary antisemitism. Objects to the illusion that the underprivileged classes are the bearers of progressive demands, when they, the "poor", are often the driving force of antisemitism.
