This work presents an intimate scene of two Jewish musicians and a woman from Morocco. Both of the men sit on the floor, cross-legged, and each one holds an instrument: the man on the left plays guitar while the man on the right plays tambourine. Between them a woman listens to their music, lying on a stand in a comfortable position. They are all dressed in traditional clothes and have their hair covered. Eugène Delacroix visited Morocco in 1832. Over six months, he traveled from Tangier to Meknes and had the opportunity to assist to oriental concerts and celebrations. He wrote in his diary his fascination for the oriental instruments like the classical lute, called aoud, with its particular sonority. [S.H]
