The architectural style is based on Byzantine Revival and built in the shape of a 12-sided polygon, symbolic of the 12 tribes of Israel. The congregation started as an Orthodox congregation at 1843 but since 1856 changed towards Reform Judaism and is now a Reform congregation. They had their first building only at 1855 but after a fire they moved to Charter Oak Temple where they remained between 1876-1935. The temple depicted in this postcard is their current Temple, dedicated in 1936 and located in West Hartford. It was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1995.
