  • Washington place names, via WWW, Oct. 26, 2004(Mowich Lake: A fairly large, 122.6-acre lake, elevation 4,929 feet is at the head of Crater Creek in the northwest corner of Mount Rainier National Park. This round lake is a glacial cirque. In 1883, it was named Crater Lake by geologist Bailey Willis with the belief that it was located in a volcanic crater. When Willis discovered his mistake many years later, the name was changed. The name of the creek which drains it was not. Mowitch Lake: A 15.8-acre lake, 13 miles northeast of North Bend, east central King County.)
