- Günther Franz; born May 23, 1902, in Hamburg; died July 22, 1992, in Stuttgart; historian, mainly concerned with agricultural history and the history of the German Peasants' War (the Bauernkrieg). He was nicknamed "Farmer Franz." He received his doctorate at Göttingen in 1925. He saw Hitler's rise to power as the fulfillment of the goals of the Bauernkrieg. He taught at Heidelberg from 1935 to 1945, when he was dismissed from his professorship following Germany's defeat in World War II.
