- Johansen, Bruce E. Encyclopedia of Native American biography, 1997:pages 285-287 (Leonard Peltier; Anishinabe, born 1944. An activist in the American Indian Movement during the 1973 confrontation at Wounded Knee, Peliter was caught in a shootout with FBI agents and state police. He was later convicted of killing two FBI agents there though his trial was highly controversial and inconsistent.
