- Fondation de la France Libre website, viewed March 10, 2018(Jean Moulin (1899-1943); president-founder of the Conseil national de Résistance; youngest sous-préfet in France (1925), préfet of Rodez and then Chartres (both 1938); resisted German demands; revoked by Vichy November 1940; made contact with the Resistance in the southern zone, then went to England (September 1941); charged by de Gaulle to rally and unify the resistance movements; parachuted into Alpilles 2 January 1942 and set up headquarters in Lyon; created the Armée secrète commanded by general Delestraint (1942), then the CNR (May 1943); arrested by the Gestapo in Caluire 21 June 1943, tortured, died during his transfer to Germany in July 1943)
