- Nicholas Saslavsky, 1885-1965; Born 1885 in Poltava, Ukraine; was a boy chorister in the choir of cantor Ben Zion Feibush; accompanied the cantor to Kiev in 1897 and then sang in Brodsky Synagogue in the choir directed by Alexander Dzimitrovsky; after piano studies in Kiev went to Berlin to pursue conducting, and while there, sang in one of Berlin's synagogues; after touring throughout Scandinavia and Belgium as an accompanist, immigrated to America in 1907, and in 1908 organized a Zionist choral group; studied music at Yale University and then held positions as organist and choirmaster at several New York area synagogues, also serving as cantor at two of them; in 1933 became the musical director and conductor of the orchestra of WEVD radio station in New York that was oriented towards Yiddish speaking listeners; died in 1965) URL: ( (Milkenarchive.org WWW site, October 30, 2015) )
