- Dictionary of African Biography, accessed November 17, 2014, via Oxford African American Studies Center database(Armah, Ayi Kwei; George Aryee Quaye Armah; novelist, translator, poet, essayist; born 1939 in Sekondi Takoradi, Ghana; attended Prince of Wales College (now Achimota School) near Accra (1953-1958); worked as a news writer for Radio Ghana (1959); won a Carnegie Corporation scholarship to join Groton School in Massachusetts (1959); graduated with BA degree in sociology from Harvard (1963); left America for Algeria to work as a translator for the magazine Révolution Africaine (1963); employed as a script writer at Ghana Television (1964); editor at the French-language magazine Jeune Afrique (1967); graduated from Columbia University with an MFA in Writing and Translation (1970); taught for a semester at the University of Massachusetts before leaving for Kenya and then Tanzania, where he taught at the College of National Education in Chang'ombe (until 1976); taught creative and expository writing at the National University of Lesotho (1976))
