- Oxford Dictionary of National Biography online, viewed 6 December 2021(Wilson, Thomas (1663-1755), bishop of Sodor and Man, was born on 20 December 1663 at Burton, near Neston, Cheshire; Wilson entered Trinity College in 1682 and was elected a scholar the following year; he intended to study medicine, but then decided on an ecclesiastical career; Wilson was ordained a deacon in 1686 in the cathedral church of Kildare on the day of its consecration; he was appointed domestic chaplain to William George Richard Stanley (d. 1702), lord of Man and the ninth earl of Derby, in 1692; he was consecrated as bishop of Sodor and Man at the Savoy church in London in January 1697, and was made doctor of laws about the same time; Oxford and Cambridge both conferred honorary doctorates of divinity on Wilson in 1707, and in June of that year he was elected a member of the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel; Wilson died at Bishop's Court on 7 March 1755)
