Gulick (John Thomas Gulick ; born in Waimea, Kauai, Kingdom of Hawaii on Mar. 13, 1832 ; he was an American missionary and naturalist ; he performed some of the first modern evolutionary studies ; began to study and collect Hawaiian land snails in 1851 ; enrolled in Union Theological Seminary from 1859 to 1861 ; ordained as a missionary in China in 1864 and continued his studies of snails ; moved to Japan in 1875 and continued his missionary work ; moved to Oberlin, Ohio in 1899 and expanded his study to societal evolution in humans ; author of "Evolution, racial and habitudinal" as well as numerous articles published in "Journal of the Linnean Society of London", and "Nature" ;died April 14, 1923 in Honolulu, Hawaii ( (Wikipedia, viewed November 19, 2018 :) )
