In 1710, in anticipation of a blood libel trial in Sandomierz, a Jewish convert to Christianity named Jan Serafinowicz wrote a manuscript (in Yiddish) in which he claimed that Jews sacrificed Christian children, and described Jewish rites involving the use of Christian blood. He also confessed to Archdeacon Stefan Żuchowski that he had participated in two ritual murders in his youth. The Jewish governing body, the Council of Four Lands, summoned Serafinowicz to a public disputation in 1712, but he disappeared, only to emerge in Gdańsk in 1719, where he died in that year. Pp. 19-66 present a Latin version of Serafinowicz's text, based on a deposition he gave before his death (the original Yiddish text and a Polish translation made in 1710 were destroyed in a fire following the Warsaw uprising in 1944), and an English translation.
