| תקציר/הערה |
In November 2007 a member of the governmental Swedish Art Council came out against a proposal to grant state funding to the journal "Mana" among her accusations was one of antisemitism. A survey of the journal shows that the accusations were justified. "Mana", owned by the Iranian-Swedish Solidarity Association and regarded as leftist and anti-racist, denied the accusations and claimed that its antisemitism was merely legitimate criticism of Israel. The journal's stand was supported by the left and liberal press in Sweden. Such a defensive attitude of the left and even centrist press can be attributed to the liberals' belief that antisemitism can emanate only from the extreme right and that those on the left, let alone those with an immigrant background, cannot harbor racist and antisemitic views.
