תקציר/הערה The view that antisemitism is eternal and unchanging may lead to a preoccupation with general theories and ideas, neglecting the specific historical factors behind antisemitic outbreaks, and to a fatalistic determinism in which all forms of racism and anti-Judaism lead to the Final Solution. In his book "Vichy France and the Jews", written with Robert Paxton, Marrus presents an alternative model in which antisemitism is seen as a series of concentric circles, becoming more intense at the center and liable in certain major crises to coalesce.
