| תקציר/הערה |
The view that antisemitism is eternal and unchanging may lead to a preoccupation with general theories and ideas, neglecting the specific historical factors behind antisemitic outbreaks, and to a fatalistic determinism in which all forms of racism and anti-Judaism lead to the Final Solution. In his book "Vichy France and the Jews", written with Robert Paxton, Marrus presents an alternative model in which antisemitism is seen as a series of concentric circles, becoming more intense at the center and liable in certain major crises to coalesce. (From the Bibliography of the Vidal Sassoon International Center for the Study of Antisemitism - The Hebrew University of Jerusalem) Appeared also in "The Nazi Holocaust Historical Articles on the Destruction of European Jews. Vol. 2: The Origins of the Holocaust" (1989) 172-184. Appeared in French in "Sens Juifs et Chrétiens dans le monde aujourd'hui" 37,1 (1985) 17-25. |
