A commentary on the Psalms by Abraham (Astruc) Rimoch (in a 15th century ms.) throws light on the intellectual atmosphere of Spanish Jewry at the time of the disputation of Tortosa (1413-1414), in which Rimoch participated. In the introduction to his commentary (in Hebrew, presented here on pp. 412-413) Rimoch describes his own personal history and the Tortosa disputation. The Jewish debaters failed to win and many Jews converted. Notes that Rimoch's commentary also reflects despair, and his belief that it is useless to engage in direct polemics with the Christians. In this commentary he attacks his fellow Jews for succumbing to conversion, but during the dispute of Tortosa he himself converted and changed his name to Franciscus de Sant Jordi.
