Analyzes the concept of "perfidia judaica" or Jewish conspiracy in the writings of Alonso de Espina (e.g. "Fortalitium fidei") in the 15th century. Citing the chronicle of Lucas de Tuy (12th century), Espina, a defender of Visigothic continuity in Spanish politics, popularized the accusations stating that the Jews collaborated with the Arab conquerors and even opened to them the gates of Toledo, the capital and symbol of Visigothic rule. Espina commended the anti-Jewish Visigothic legislation, as well as Alfonso el Sabio's stipulations in the "Siete Partidas" against Jews, and even called for the institution of an Inquisition to deal with the Jewish Conversos suspected of Judaizing.
