- Gershom Scholem (Gerhard Scholem who, after his immigration from Germany to Palestine, changed his name to Gershom Scholem (Hebrew: גרשם שלום) (December 5, 1897 - February 21, 1982), was a German-born Israeli philosopher and historian. Gerhard Scholem was born in Berlin to Arthur Scholem and Betty Hirsch Scholem. Scholem died in Jerusalem, where he is buried next to his wife in Sanhedria. Jürgen Habermas delivered the eulogy.
