This religious practice is performed on the eighth day of the child's life, by a mohel, a circumciser, who appears in the center of the image. As we can see in the picture, the ritual is made in the presence of family and friends who are standing around the baby. The man who holds the child on his knee during the ceremony is called the Sandaq(godfather). He wears the tallit (prayer shawl) and sits on a throne which represents the seat of the prophet Eliahou. Next to the mohel, there is a table on which we can distinguish the glass of the Kiddush, the blessing which accompanies the ceremony. The child's father seems to be the man in the left foreground: He is covered with the tallit during all the ceremony, as the tradition goes.
