As a result, the Mellah (a walled Jewish quarter of a city in Morocco, an analogue of the European ghetto) was destroyed, houses and shops were burnt, Jews were deprived of their possessions (jewels, pieces of furniture, crockery, clothes etc.). They went to get refuge in the cemetery of the Mellah as well as in the enclosure of the Sultan's Palace. The postcard shows the Jewish refugees - men, women and children - grouped together at the Dar-El-Makhzen (the Royal Palace), at the first Mechour (a place mainly existing in Maghreb and in particularly in Morocco.
