As a result, the Mellah (a walled Jewish quarter of a city in Morocco, an analogue of the European ghetto) was destroyed, houses and shops were burnt, Jews were deprived of their possessions (jewels, pieces of furniture, crockery, clothes etc.). They went to get refuge in the cemetery of the Mellah as well as in the enclosure of the Sultan's Palace. The postcard shows the Jewish refugees - men, women, children -grouped together at the entries of the Sultan's Palace. [S.H];Back Handwritten Text - 23
