Kwartalnik Historii Żydów 287,3 (2023):page 515 (Dina Blond was born Shayne Feygl in 1887 near Vilnius, as the daughter of Shimon Yitzhak and Khane Sore Szapiro), page 516 (in 1920, she moved to Warsaw, where she lived until the Second World War broke out. She was a member of the Warsaw Bund Committee and from 1926 the chairwoman of the newly established intra-party women's organization Yidishe Arbeter Froy -YAF. Her husband was Beinish Michalewicz, one of the leading Bundist activists, a member of the party's Central Committee. After the occupation of Warsaw by the Germans in 1939, she managed to escape to Vilnius, and in 1941 she reached the United States thanks to the notorious Japanese diplomat Chiune Sugihara, who used his influence at the consular post in Kaunas in order to save thousands of Jews. She settled down in New York and continued to be active there; she also became a member of the Arbeter Ring working for the YIVO Archive while still continuing her journalistic efforts. Dina Blond (1 March 1887 - 1985) was a prominent member of the Jewish Labour Bund in Poland and a prolific Yiddish translator.
