- Work cat.: Fox, S. Uncivil liberties, c2000:p. 4 of cover (federal relocation program to force thousands of West Coast Italian aliens to leave their homes; Feb.-June 1942)
- Fox, S. The unknown internment : an oral history of the relocation of Italian Americans during World War II, 1990:p. xiii ("In marked contrast to the government's meticulous and voluminous record keeping in the case of the Japanese, the archives are eerily silent about the experiences of Italian and German aliens during the four to eight months they were removed from their homes and jobs ... From government records we learn only that on 15 and 24 February 1942, for reasons of 'military necessity,' approximately ten thousands enemy aliens were prohibited residence and work in, or travel to, specified restricted zones along the coast; that on 27 June 1942, the government realizing that what it had done in February was a mistake, permitted Italian and German aliens to return to their homes and jobs in the restricted zones; and that finally, on Columbus Day, 12 October 1942, as Americans readied their fateful plunge into the Mediterranean and the country honored its most famous Genoese, Italian aliens were removed from the enemy alien category.")
- Searching for the subversives: the story of Italian internment in wartime America, 2017:p. xv ("this study focuses on 343 men and women who were subjected to selective internment for varying lengths of time") p. 44 ("On January 29, the attorney general issued the first of several orders establishing prohibited zones on the West Coast...evacuation of more than 10,000 Italians from prohibited zones on the West Coast and relocation to areas outside these zones began in February 1942 and continued until June 1942")
- The unknown internment : an oral history of the relocation of Italian Americans during World War II, 1990:p. 71 ("there was also nothing gentle about the forced removal of families, friends, neighbors and relatives.... Most of the 2,500 Istalians scattered to new residences in seventy-five towns throughout the state")
- "Legislature formally acknowledge that the events of World War II represented a fundamental injustice against Italian Americans, deeply regrets these acts, and reaffirms its commitment to preserving the rights of all people and celebrating their contributions" ( (Senate concurrent resolution 95: acknowledgement and apology to Italian Americans, 2010) )
- "The Committee on the Judiciary, to whom was referred the resolution H. Res. 56 supporting the goals of the Japanese Amer-ican, German American, and Italian American communities in rec-ognizing a National Day of Remembrance to increase public aware-ness of the events surrounding the restriction, exclusion, and in-ternment of individuals and families during World War II" ( (Supporting the goals of the Japanese American, German American, and Italian American communities in recognizing a national day of remembrance to increase public awareness of the events surrounding the restriction, exclusion, and internment of individuals and families during World War II: report to accompany H. Res. 56, 2004) )
- p. 2 ("11,000 ethnic Germans, 3,200 ethnic Italians, and scores of Bulgarians, Hungarians, Romanians or other European Americans and European Latin Americans were taken from their homes and placed in internment camps during World War II. Following Pearl Harbor, the U.S. Government pursuant to the Alien Enemies Act deemed approximately 600,000 Italian-born and 300,000 German-born United States resident aliens as 'enemy aliens,' restricting their travel and personal prop-erty rights and requiring them to carry certificates of identification ...These policies were devastating to the German and Italian communities, individuals and families, and the effects are still being experienced" ( (Wartime Treatment Study Act of 2007,) )
