Modern Nigerian novels, 1969: (b pages 191-192 (NWANKWO, Nkem; born at Nawfia near Onitsha in 1936; studied English in Lagos and at University College, Ibadan; graduated from this university in 1962 and became a teacher at a grammar school, Ibadan; later moved to Lagos, where he worked for Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation; in a contest organized on the occasion of Nigerian Independence day, he took a second prize; wrote a number of short stories and poems; his play Two Sisters and a short story, The Gambler, were well accepted; his novel Danda (1964) was adapted for the stage, and his second novel Broken Images was finished in 1966)

- Nkem Nwankwo; born Nawfia-Awka, Nigeria, near the Igbo city of Onitsha; BA 1962, University College, Ibadan; after graduating he took a teaching job at Ibadan Grammar School; went on to write for magazines, including Drum, and working for the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation; wrote children's stories published in 1963 as Tales Out of School; More Tales Out of School followed in 1965; his first novel, Danda (1964), was made into a widely performed musical that was entered in the 1966 World Festival of Negro Arts in Dakar, Senegal; during the Nigerian civil war he worked on Biafra's Arts Council; in 1968, in collaboration with Samuel X. Ifekjika, he wrote Biafra: The Making of a Nation; after the civil war he returned to Lagos and worked on the national newspaper, the Daily Times; his subsequent works included the satire, My Mercedes Is Bigger than Yours; in the 1970s he earned a Master's and Ph.D. at Indiana University; he also wrote about corruption in Nigeria; he spent the latter part of his life in the US, taught at Michigan State University and Tennessee State University; died in his sleep in Tennessee, from complications from a heart imbalance ( (Wikipedia, July 9, 2025) )
