- Arthur Andrew Demarest is an American anthropologist and archaeologist, known for his studies of the Maya civilization. Demarest, a Louisiana Cajun, studied Mesoamerican anthropology and archaeology at Tulane University, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude and was awarded the Dean's Medal. Demarest earned his M.A. and doctorate in anthropology and archaeology at Harvard University ; From 1984 to 1986 he served as Assistant Professor at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee, USA. In 1986 he was promoted to Full Professor and was named to the endowed Centennial Chair. آرثر ديمارس (الإنجليزية: Arthur Demarest) عالم أمريكي متخصص في علم الآثار وعلم الإنسان، وُلد في لويزيانا في الولايات المتحدة عام 1965. واشتهر بدراسته في مجالات حضارة المايا ووسط أمريكا في عصر ما قبل الكولومبي. وقام الصحفي الأمريكي آلان فايسمان مؤلف كتاب العالم من دوننا بإجراء مقابلة مع ديمارس ليحصل على تفاصيل أكثر عن فترة ازدهار حضارة المايا ونهايتها.
