بيانات بيوغرافية أو تاريخية
In 1891, Frs. Victor Garrand, SJ, and Adrian Sweere, SJ, took over a small parish school at the intersection of Broadway and Madison in Seattle, Washington. Re-chartered as Seattle College in 1898, it granted its first bachelor's degrees eleven years later. In 1919, Seattle College moved into new quarters on the campus of bankrupt Adelphia College on Interlaken Blvd. A decade of low enrollment followed, leading Father John McHugh, SJ, to separate the college from its prep school in 1931. In 1931, president McHugh sent Fr. Louis Egan, SJ, to clean up the derelict buildings and overgrown grounds on the old Broadway campus. In September, the college opened to 46 students. On May 28, 1948, 50 years after the chartering of Seattle College, president Father Albert A. Lemieux, SJ announced the incorporation of Seattle University. The new university quickly achieved national prominence, thanks in part to its success on the basketball court. A detailed history of the university is available at http://www.seattleu.edu/history/.
