- Wikipedia, viewed 9 March 2022:Chester Ronning (Chester Alvin Ronning CC AOE; educator, politician, and diplomat; born December 13, 1894, Fancheng, China; born to Norwegian American Lutheran missionaries who moved from China to the Peace River region of Alberta; earned a B.Sc. in 1916 and a master's degree in 1942 from the University of Alberta; served as a missionary in China from 1922 to 1927, then as principal of Camrose Lutheran College for 15 years; won a byelection in Camrose in 1932 as a United Farmers of Alberta member, losing reelection in 1935 and serving as leader of the successor party Co-operative Commonwealth Federation from 1940 to 1942 and running unsuccessfully in the 1945 federal election; served in diplomatic posts in China (1945-1951), Norway (1954-1957), India (1957-1964) and at the United Nations; made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1967 and promoted to Companion in 1972 and inducted into the Alberta Order of Excellence in 1983; the Chester Ronning Centre for the Study of Religion and Public Life is named after him; died December 31, 1984, Camrose, Alberta)
